Putting Children First
BESE DISTRICT 4
“As a businesswoman, mother of two public school children and public school volunteer for nearly 20 years, I know what our students and teachers need to help them succeed. I am excited to bring fresh ideas and my experience as a businessowner and parent to BESE. Our Louisiana students deserve to leave high school prepared to embrace opportunities they encounter and to create opportunities for their future. I hope I can earn your support.”
Shelly McFarland has been a long-time resident and active member of our community here in North Louisiana. She lives in Winnfield with her husband, State Representative Jack McFarland. Their son Jackson, a public school graduate, now attends Nicholls State University where he plays football. Macy – their daughter – is a junior at Winnfield Senior High School.
Shelly is Vice President of McFarland Timber and has launched multiple successful businesses over the years when she has identified a gap in services to support the timber and logging industry. It is this entrepreneurial spirit, refusal to be complacent with persistent gaps, and her ability to lead through innovating that will make her an invaluable member of BESE.
Shelly is ready to bring her experience as a mother and businesswoman to BESE in order to improve Louisiana schools and provide Louisiana children and families with a better future.
